A lot of people believe that it costs quite a lot of money to landscape your yard. That is not necessarily correct as you can do so much with stones, clay pots and cheap plants, that it doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
Landscaping only becomes super expensive if you hire professionals to do it for you but if you don’t mind doing it yourself then you can learn and have some fun at the same time. Below are some cheap alternatives to landscaping that are quite easy on your pocket but big on beauty!
Non-Expensive Landscape Ideas
1/ If you have a large but empty yard that is boring because it hasn’t been landscaped then why not turn some sections of your yard into outdoor rooms?
An outdoor rooms is just like any other indoor room and has walls, a floor and a ceiling. The big difference is that you don’t have to use any concret, insulation or wooden planks to finish the parts of an outdoor room.
You can use a bed of clover as your flooring, a large umbrella to shade from the sun as your ceiling and a hedge for the walls. It’s completely up to you what you want the outdoor room for as you are the boss, and that is one of the biggest advantages of designing the landscape yourself. You could let the children have their play area or you could have a part of it as a work space where you can put your laptop and phone and have a bit of peace and quiet. Whatever you fancy you can do.
2/ Say you love cooking well now is a good time to start creating your own vegetable and herb garden. Vegetable gardens can be quite beautiful if you plant the right mix of vegetables.
Vegetables can be very colorful and when in full bloom, everyone will be eager to explore your little vegetable kingdom. Herbs gardens are smaller but just as attractive and a well designed herb garden can compliment nearby gardens because of the different leaf textures of common herbs.
3/ You could install an inexpensive outdoor water fountain that will create a central point of interest in your yard. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and although the most sought after design is the two tiered clay jar fountain, you could be different and try a single clay jar which pours water in a wider clay basin. There are many different types out there so take a look around and see what one takes your fancy.
Other interesting landscaping designs could be mermaids, wide basins, stone blocks or cherubs in a pose. You really don’t need to spend thousands of dollars to install an attractive fountain in your yard.
4/ Do you have some pets? Then why not create a pet friendly space in your yard where they can safely play. Some pets may need to be screend off though as they may escape. For example, if you have some rabbits at home then you could create a small enclosure in your yard when they can chomp and run around without attracting any dogs.
5/ If you are lucky enough to have a swimming pool at home then you can create a stunning poolscape by planting some small palm trees, bushes or some other type of vegetation close to the pool. It will make it look tropical and bring it to life. You could install some uplifting lights that come on at night which highlight the palm trees and make it look truly magical.
As you can see, there are many ways to enhance your backyard that doesn’t have to cost a fortune. All it takes is a bit of imagination and a bit of work to transform your backyard into something really special!
